Mentors at Kampala INSPIRE Hackathon 2020

Karel Charvat graduated in theoretical cybernetics. He is a member of International Society for Precision Agriculture, Research Data Alliance, vice chair of Club of Ossiach, CAGI, and CSITA. He was in period 2005 – 2007 President of European Federation for Information Technology in Agriculture Food and Environment (EFITA). Now is chair of OGC Agriculture DWG. He was organiser on many hackathons, where as most important were series of INSPIRE Hacks and MEDHackathon. He work on implementation on national INSPIRE Geoportal. Now he is also active in Plan4all association. He has long time experience in ICT for Environment, transport, Agriculture and Precision Farming. Now he is one from promoters of Open and Big Data in Agriculture in Europe. Stephen Kalyesubula has a great experience in embedded systems design, open and big data, internet of things, Robotics, software Application Development and network administration with a key interest in promoting sustainable development and ICT4Ag using open source technologies. Worked extensively in installing and maintaining networks, data analysis and visualization, project management, promoting science and technology innovations in Uganda.
Stephen Kalyesubula is the mentor of Challenge 1: Transportation related aspects of Urban Planning – use case of Kampala.

Tuula Löytty earned her MSc in Industrial Engineering and Management from Lappeenranta Technical University, and her Bachelor in Process Technology from the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Technology, Finland. Her career can be segmented into six overlapping blocks, which nowadays enable her a wide view over business life and society. She has worked during three decades at three different lines of business: basic food production i.e. dairy- and sugar industry, metal industry and higher education. Her competences are demerged into three pillars: value chain management including logistics- and purchasing processes, continuous improvement methodologies, and project management, which covers both tangible delivery projects and research-, development- and innovation projects.
Tuula Löytty is the owner of Smart & Lean Hub Oy, Finland.
Tuula is is the co-mentor of Challenge 1: Transportation related aspocts of Urban Planning – use case of Kampala and Challenge 2: SmartAfriHub.

Karel Jedlička is an experienced researcher that participated in many EU projects (e.g. OpenTransportNetDataBio, GEPAM and AFarCloud) as data modeller and technical manager. Traineeship at ESRI Redlands, CA (2003). PostDoc internship at TU Delft (2014).
Research activities: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), multidimensional data modelling according to open standards (e.g. INSPIRE, CityGML, etc.) ~ particularly data structures for Smart Cities. Specialized in the areas of 3D GIS, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and traffic modelling

Lilian Ndungu is a Technical Lead for Agriculture and Food Security at RCMRD/SERVIR E&SA is an Agriculture and Food Security Expert, with outstanding experience in providing technical leadership for programs on climate change, agriculture and food security. She is passionate about the application of big data, technology for adaptation and resilience. Lilian won the NASA Excellence Award (2016) for contribution towards Agriculture and Food Security Assessments in East and Southern Africa.
Lilian Ndungu is the mentor of Challenge 4: Desert Locust and the co-mentor of Challenge 7: EO4FoodSecurity.

Joel Muhanguzi is a recent computer engineering graduate from Makerere University Kampala. He is currently a research assistant with iLabs@MAK, a research project at the university where he supervises a team of student researchers developing remote laboratory technology for improving the learning experience of engineering students at the faculty of technology. He also spears head an IoT project initiative known as SONATA-Smart Soil Nutrients for cost effective agriculture which is comprised of designing low resource hardware equipment running on sensor technology that continuously streams data to a custom designed IoT platform for data logging which is subjected to machine learning models for prediction of crop yields and establishing a soil map for the various regions within Uganda. His interest is in developing low cost and sustainable IoT infrastructure for advancing the main backbone sectors of the African economy.

Jiri Kvapil graduated at Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Science, graduated in Cartography, Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing. His working history is GIS analyst,IT administrator, IT Architect, Head of department, Project manager. Jiri has a great experience with implementation and reporting of EU Directives (INSPIRE, WFD, UWWTD, DWD), responsile for CLC 2012 project in the CZ as project manager. He is also involved in many national projects (Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Environment, Technology Agency) and international research projects (ETC/ICM, smeSpire, SUDPLAN, FATIMA, Polirural, SIEUSOIL and others).
Jiri Kvapil is the mentor of Challenge 2: SmartAfriHub and he is also a co-mentor of Challenge 7: EO4FoodSecurity.

Kizito Odhiambo is the founder and CEO of agriBORA an agri-tech platform digitizing, quantifying and monitoring crop production across East African farms. Kizito’s academic background is in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from the Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany. He is a technology enthusiast working on IT and data science projects that are leveraging the use or remotely sensed data for the agricultural sector.

Dzmitry Kozhukh has studied cartography and geoinformatics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Charles University in Prague. He works in his field (cartography and GIS) from year 2012. For that time he has gained big experience in everyday work tasks, such as collecting, processing, harmonizing, analyzing, visualizing spatial data, creating metadata, developing web GIS applications, preparing maps for print, automating processes, writing projects’ reports etc. He has taken part in several European projects, for example, NisaGo, Plan4Business, SDI4Apps, OpenTransportNet. Actively takes part in various hackathons and challenges.
Dzmitry Kozhukh is the mentor of Challenge 3: OpenLandUse for Africa and also the co-mentor for Challenge 2: SmartAfriHub and Challenge 7: EO4FoodSecurity.

Paul Kasoma is an Agro-Technologist, a data scientist, Information systems developer, a trainer, Open data advocate. Holds a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Certificate in Open data, Certificate in feeding a hungry planet, Certificate in sustainable cities, Certificate in computer skills. Also a senior communications executive at Youths in Technology and Development Uganda whose main mission lies in Digitizing Agriculture, ICT4 Rural Development, Open Data in Agriculture and Nutrition, Youth Empowerment and Community development.

Michal Kepka is a researcher that participated in many EU projects (e.g. Peregrinus Silva Bohemica, GEPAM, DataBio, SDI4Apps etc.) as spatial data modeller, software developer, sensor data expert. PhD internship at Vidzeme University (2015). Research activities: spatial data modelling, application design and development, sensor data processing and publishing according to standards (e.g. OGC SOS, SensorThings, OMA NGSI), GIS.
Michal Kepka is the mentor of Challenge 5: IoT for Africa and he is also involved as the co-mentor in Challenge 8: Text Mining and Metadata.

Pavel Hajek is a researcher and a lecturer at the Department of Geomatics. He participated in several EU projects such as OpenTransportNet, GEPAM, Peregrinus Silva Bohemica or EUXDAT. His focus was mainly on data modelling, assembling and gathering. His doctoral internship was taken at TU Delft (2014). Research activities: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), multidimensional data modelling – especially 3D data handling, cartography and visualisation, 3D GIS/CAD/BIM.
Pavel Hajek is the mentor of Challenge 6: Climate Change Trends for Africa.

Foteini Zampati is a legal professional with over 18 years of experience. Since joining KTBL she has been working as a data rights research specialist to support the Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN) initiative on Ethical and Legal aspects of Open data. She is responsible for the research and analysis of national and international legislation on Open Data and Intellectual Property, ownership issues and data rights, compliance and best practices across all aspects of national and European privacy and security, as also data protection law and regulation (GDPR) in the agricultural sector. Foteini holds an LLB in Law and a master in European Union and Business Law.
Foteini Zampati is the mentor of Challenge 9: Ethical and legal aspects of open data affecting farmers.

Daniel Beran graduated from the University of West Bohemia (UWB) at Faculty of Geomatics in 2018 with an Ing. degree (eq. to MSc). Since 2014 he has been active in various H2020 projects (OpenTransportNet, PoliVisu, DUET). In 2015 Daniel joined the Traffic Modeller team working as data manager and GIS analyst. Since 2018 he is undergoing a PhD study program at the UWB exploring classification of LiDAR point clouds. In 2018 and 2020 Daniel was a guest researcher at TU Delft and TU Wien respectively. He is a part time GIS teacher at Pilsen highschool of civil engineering. He has experience in GIS, traffic modelling, 3D visualization and point cloud processing.
Daniel has been a mentor for several INSPIRE hackathon teams (e.g. Valmiera 2018, Nairobi 2019, Prague 2020).
In this Kampala INSPIRE Hackathon he is the co-mentor of Challenge 1: Transportation related aspocts of Urban Planning – use case of Kampala.
