RDA’s 17th Plenary Meeting: Shift to Virtual, Key Deadlines and Updates

The planning for RDA’s 17th plenary is well underway, and we would like to bring a few exciting news and key deadlines to your attention:

  • Despite the welcome news regarding vaccination programmes being rolled out in the UK and around the world, the uncertainty around in-person events is still unfortunately ongoing. Therefore, in the interest of this community’s safety and to allow for more clarity around session preparations, RDA’s 17th Plenary will be a fully virtual event. Following the success of Virtual Plenaries 15 and 16, we are confident and excited about yet another engaging event bringing the community together in April 2021.
  • The call for breakout session submissions has been extended until 26 January, 23:59 UTC. You can submit your application for Working and Interest Group Sessions, Joint Meetings and Birds of a Feather sessions by completing the submission forms available here: https://www.rd-alliance.org/rdas-17th-plenary-call-sessions-extended
  • draft programme structure for RDA’s 17th Plenary meeting is now available at https://www.rd-alliance.org/rdas-17th-plenary-meeting-programme-structure to assist with session preparation and provide more information around the timings of the plenary.
  • As in previous plenaries, you will be able to present your poster during dedicated time slots in the programme, social and coffee breaks, as well as at a dedicated poster exhibition area on the VP17 virtual platform. Submit your poster abstract by 26 March, 23:59 UTChttps://www.rd-alliance.org/rdas-17th-plenary-call-posters
  • Planning a virtual event? If your event will be focused on showcasing your data-related work and/or synergizing with other data experts, co-locating with VP17 will provide you an excellent opportunity to meet these objectives. Your event can take place virtually on the 19th or 23rd of April 2021.   • As the programme develops and more speakers are confirmed, more information will become available at https://www.rd-alliance.org/rda-17th-plenary-meeting-speakers. Make sure to check the profiles for our two scheduled keynote talks by Dr Jeni Tennison and Professor Richard Gold.
  • Similarly to VP16, a nominal fee will be requested to attend RDA VP17. More information on registration and fees will follow in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

Pozvánka na Otevřené jaro 2021

Zajímá Vás využití otevřených dat v zemědělství, vzdělávání, životním prostředí, územním plánování, cestovním ruchu, turistice nebo dopravě? Chcete znát možnosti, jak využít otevřená data ve vlastních aktivitách a aplikacích? Chcete se seznámit s moderními trendy v oblasti prostorových dat?

Situace spojená s pandemií COVID-19 nám bohužel neumožňuje předat Vám tyto informace osobně prostřednictvím každoročně konané akce Pražský týden velkých a otevřených dat. Proto jsme se rozhodli změnit formát této akce na online událost nesoucí název Otevřené jaro.

V rámci tohoto čtyřměsíčního “webinářového maratonu” Vás budeme pravidelně každé úterý v čase 13:00 seznamovat s možnostmi, jak využít otevřená data a dostupné aplikace pro potřeby zemědělství a dalších odvětví.

Ve druhé polovině tohoto maratonu budeme také organizovat tradiční INSPIRE Hackathon, kde budete mít možnost vyzkoušet si prakticky nové technologie a kdy naše infrastruktury budou otevřeny také vývojářům. Již nyní jsme otevřeni Vašim nápadům a rádi Vaše myšlenky zařadíme mezi cíle tohoto hackathonu.

Webinář 1: Tvorba mapových podkladů pro variabilní aplikace v precizním zemědělství pomocí webového nástroje

Jedním ze způsobů, jak zvýšit efektivitu hospodaření na zemědělské půdě jsou variabilně provádění pěstební zásahy využívající technologie precizního zemědělství. Ty jsou prováděny na základě mapových podkladů, které vychází z mapování nevyrovnanosti půdy a zohledňují dlouhodobé relativní variability výnosů v různých částech pozemku, takzvaných produkčních zónách.

Na prvním lednovém webináři se stručně seznámíme s principem vytváření map produkčních zón zohledňující dlouhodobou variabilitu výnosů pomocí využití volně dostupných dat dálkového průzkumu země a ukážeme si webový nástroj, který slouží k vytváření aplikačních map pro využití v zemědělské technice na základě takto získaných map produkčních zón.

Webinář 2: Sdílení prostorových dat – ukázka QGIS LayMan Pluginu a HSLayers-NG webové technologie

Máte na svém počítači prostorová data, která chcete mít dostupná i online ať pro sebe anebo je sdílet ostatním?

Na tomto webináři si ukážeme jednoduchou cestu, jak využít otevřené nástroje a technologie k publikování mapových vrstev nebo celých kompozic online. Využijeme k tomu plugin do desktopového softwaru QGIS nazvaný “LayMan QGIS Plugin”, pomocí něhož lze snadno nahrát prostorová data na server. Data si pak zobrazíme v online mapové aplikaci založené na knihovně “HSLayers-NG”. Tato online mapa může navíc fungovat také jako publikační nástroj a můžeme s ní data nahrávat i bez softwaru QGIS.

Na webináři se dozvíte nejen to, ale také se krátce podíváme, jak tyto služby fungují. Ukážeme si, že jsou zcela zdarma a především, jak postupovat, abyste i Vy mohli sdílet data, a naopak využívat data od jiných uživatelů.

Webinář 3: SensLog – řešení pro integraci senzorů a správu senzorových dat

Poslední lednový webinář představí otevřené komplexní řešení pro integraci a správu senzorových dat z různých zdrojů. Aplikace SensLog je vyvíjena komunitou vývojářů více než 10 let a je využívána nejen ve výzkumných projektech, ale také v komerčních aplikacích v dlouhodobém sběru a správě dat. Postupně kolem samotné aplikace SensLog vzniká celá sada komponent, které rozšiřují funkcionalitu původní aplikace především z hlediska interoperability řešení, ale také z pohledu analytických možností zpracování surových senzorových dat. Interoperabilita aplikace je cílena na standardy vydávané konsorciem OGC, ale jednotlivé konektory umožňují sbírat data od různých poskytovatelů dat z proprietárních úložišť.

Aplikace SensLog umožňuje vytvořit webové řešení pro jednotlivé senzorové kampaně,
ale i komplexní integrační řešení v cloudovém prostředí.

IoT in Agriculture Session at 117th OGC TC

We would like to invite you the IoT in Agriculture Session at the next 117th OGC Technical meeting, which will be held on the 7th of December 2020 at 14 00   and 17 30  of US Eastern Standard Time (EST). It means 20 00 and 23 30 of Central European Time.

IoT technology enriches precision farming and in principle the farming in general as well as food sector. There exist several different types of sensors, but also systems for measurement management models including AI. It requires a linkage between existing sensor networks and Earth observation systems, crop growth models, etc.s. This requires a combination of information to create effective, standardized actuation protocols (‘task maps’) for machines and robots.

The goal of this session is to connect sensors and software producers with experts from different domains and start a discussion, how to make IoT information more interoperable and how to support a better utilization of IoT in agriculture and food production.

DIONE Webinar – Paving the way for advanced and modernized Common Agricultural Policy area-based monitoring

The DIONE project  team(funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No.870378), invites you to participate in the webinar entitled  DIONE – Paving the way for advanced and modernized Common Agricultural Policy area-based monitoring!

The Webinar aims to bring together different actors from European Paying Agencies (both, Member States and Candidate States) as well as other relevant stakeholders attempting to foster advice, knowledge and innovation in agriculture, who are open to transform this sector and move towards a new era through the use of Earth Observation based solutions for modernizing Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) area-based monitoring. The Webinar will demonstrate how DIONE Toolbox could enhance the current operational workflows, delivering the clear economic value to key targeted customers and aiming to lower administrative and operational costs to 30% of the current ones related to CAP area-based compliance checks and assessment of respective environmental impacts.

All actors from European Paying Agencies (PAs) are invited to actively participate in the Webinar by sharing business aspects of their existing workflows and by providing their needs and recommendations on how the adoption of new solutions like DIONE Toolbox could be strengthen and lead to a more sustainable business model.

Supported by the European Commission (EC) and African Union Commission (AUC), IST-Africa Week 2021 (May) is the sixteenth in an annual series of Ministerial Level Technology Research and Innovation Conferences.

IST-Africa provides a platform in Africa to strengthen technology-enabled Innovation, Science and Technology and Entrepreneurship related policy dialogues within Africa and between Africa and Europe, Global Development, Research and Innovation Cooperation and Community Building. It also provides an opportunity to identify potential partners for future research cooperation under Horizon Europe and other international funding programs. Each presenter can present ONE paper in the Programme. It is necessary for papers to be physically presented during the event to ensure inclusion in the Proceedings.

COVID-19 INSPIRE Hackathon 2020: Results

After more than two months of hacking, the COVID-19 INSPIRE Hackathon was terminated by a final presentation of results & awards ceremony.
