Transforming Climate Data into Action: The Launch of FAIR2Adapt
The FAIR2Adapt project officially began with a three-day kick-off meeting (13–15 January 2025) hosted by Simula Research Laboratory in Oslo, Norway. The event united 17 partners from 14 countries, setting the stage for a collaborative three-year effort to enhance climate resilience through smarter data sharing.
Plan4All and Lesprojekt-sluzby as two of the consortium partners will build FAIR applications enabling users to publish, explore, and share climate insights in ways that fit their audience, flexible, intuitive, and built for different stakeholder needs. The Hub4Everybody open-source platform will be deployed to remove the barriers to working with spatial data, geodata publishing, web maps, metadata while providing access on mobile devices.
The meeting focused on aligning goals, establishing governance, and planning collaboration across work packages. Discussions centred on the project’s strategic ties to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and the EU Mission on Climate Adaptation, alongside the integration of FAIR Digital Objects (FDOs) and strong community engagement.
Project coordinator Dr. Anne Fouilloux highlighted FAIR2Adapt’s mission to turn climate data into actionable knowledge by leveraging EOSC services and FAIR principles—ensuring data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.
FAIR2Adapt will develop a FAIR-based framework for open and interoperable climate data using tools such as RO-Crate, nanopublications, and the I-ADOPT semantic framework. Through real-world case studies, the project will co-develop FAIR resources that demonstrate how open data sharing supports climate resilience across Europe and beyond.
Stakeholder engagement and capacity-building are central to FAIR2Adapt’s approach, fostering awareness and tailored solutions for different adaptation scenarios. The project aims to deliver scalable, sustainable data-sharing models that enhance scientific collaboration, support responsive policymaking, and strengthen the climate-smart economy.
Ultimately, FAIR2Adapt aspires to empower communities with open, trusted, and actionable climate data—building a resilient, inclusive, and knowledge-driven society ready to face the challenges of climate change.
