Prague INSPIRE Hackathon 2019

The Prague INSPIRE Hackathon 2019 took place from 21 to 23 January 2019 at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (ČZU). This event brought together professionals, students, and enthusiasts to collaborate on innovative solutions in the fields of big data, semantics, and artificial intelligence.pef.czu.cz

🎯 Objectives

  • Demonstrate the practical use of big and open data, alongside open-source tools, in real-life applications.
  • Address challenges in agriculture, spatial planning, biodiversity, climate change adaptation, the water-energy-food nexus, transport, and logistics.
  • Foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders to move scientific results into practice.

🧩 Projects and Progress

Team 1: GUI for Spark Traffic Modeller

  • Project Leader: Daniel Beran
  • Team Members: Jan Sháněl, František Kolovský, Karel Jedlička
  • Description: Development of a graphical user interface for the Spark Traffic Modeller, integrating it with HS Layers to enhance traffic modelling capabilities.

Team 2: Agro-Climatic Zones – Taking a Look at the Power of Water Sources

  • Project Leader: Pavel Hájek
  • Team Members: Jiří Valeš, Karel Jedlička, Karl Gutbrodt, Šimon Leitgeb
  • Description: Creation of an algorithm to assess the hydro effect on temperatures based on the size of water sources, building upon previous agro-climatic zoning projects.

Team 3: Semantic Cleaning of the SPOI Database

  • Project Leaders: Raul Palma, Karel Panek
  • Team Members: Otakar Čerba
  • Description: Utilization of semantic technologies to identify and eliminate duplicities in the Smart Points of Interest (SPOI) database, enhancing data quality and consistency.

Team 4: Environmental Atlas of the Liberec Region in QGIS

  • Project Leader: Jan Vrobel
  • Team Members: Dimitrij Kozuch, Marek Splichal, Runar Bergheim, Raitis Berzins, Irena Koskova, Stepan Kafka, Simon Leitgeb
  • Description: Integration of the Environmental Atlas of the Liberec Region into QGIS, enabling users to explore and visualize map compositions within the desktop GIS environment.

Team 5: QGIS as a Client for DataBio/FOODIE RDF Data

  • Project Leader: Karel Charvat

  • Description: Extension of the FOODIE data model and ontology within the DataBio project, facilitating semantic search and integration of LPIS data with satellite datasets in QGIS.

Team 6: Shortage Chain from Farm to Consumer

  • Description: Development of an e-commerce platform to support direct selling of farm products to consumers, enhancing the linkage between farming and tourism sectors.

Team 7: Amunsio Location Platform – Governmental Demonstration

  • Project Leader: Mira Wolf

  • Description: Demonstration of the Amunsio Location Platform's capabilities in supporting governmental strategies for sustainable tourism development through data integration.

Team 8: Sensor Connectors for SensLog 2.0

  • Project Leader: Ondřej Kaas
  • Team Members: Michal Kepka, Marek Musil
  • Description: Implementation of specific connectors for sensors using SigFox and NB-IOT technologies, enhancing the cloud-oriented SensLog 2.0 system for efficient data transfer.

Team 9: Social Space for Smart Farming

  • Project Leader: Petr Uhlir
  • Team Members: Marek Splichal, Michal Kepka, Andrei Grishanov, Raitis Berzins, Raul Palma, Ilze Bargā, Karel Charvat, Jiri Kvapil, Dmitrij Kozuch
  • Description: Design and development of an Agricultural Innovative Hub integrating social media principles, enabling collaboration among farmers, developers, and researchers.

Team 10: RogainOnline

  • Project Leader: Raitis Bērziņš

  • Description: Development of an Android GPS-based orienteering game, allowing users to collect virtual checkpoints in a personalized manner, enhancing engagement in outdoor activities.

Team 11: Plant.id

  • Project Leader: Ondrej Vesely
  • Team Members: Michal Kepka
  • Description: Utilization of the Plant.id REST API for plant identification based on photos and geolocation, exploring applications in automated species mapping and smart gardening tools.

Team 12: Simulate and Predict Fuel Consumption

  • Project Leader: Christian Zinke-Wehlmann
  • Team Members: Jörg Schließer, Šimon Leitgeb
  • Description: Enhancement of the Fuel Prediction API by incorporating weather data, implementing the solution into an Albatross showcase for improved fuel consumption forecasting.

Team 13: Albatross – GUI to Fuse Dataset from Different Data Sources

  • Project Leader: Christian Zinke-Wehlmann
  • Team Members: Tom Collins, Amit Kirschenbaum, Tomáš Pavelka, Willy Steinbach
  • Description: Extension of the Albatross application to handle and fuse diverse datasets, utilizing geoLIMES for geospatial link discovery and providing various data analysis capabilities.

Team 14: 3(4)D Environmental Atlas of the Liberec Region

  • Project Leader: Karel Charvat
  • Team Members: Raitis Berzins, Simon Leitgeb, Marek Musil, Jirka Kvapil, Karel Jedlicka, Irena Koskova
  • Description: Integration of 3D elements into the Environmental Atlas of the Liberec Region, aiming to attract young audiences to environmental and geoscience topics through interactive maps and games.

Team 15: Visualization of Arctic Geodata and Fishery Statistics

  • Project Leader: Jovanka Gulicoska
  • Team Members: Bente Lilja Bye, Šimon Leitgeb
  • Description: Development of time series visualizations combining met-ocean data and fishery statistics to investigate potential links between climate change and activities in the Svalbard region.
