Patras DataBio Hackathon 2019

The Patras DataBio Hackathon 2019 – AI for Agriculture was held from 2nd to 4th July 2019 at INTRASOFT International S.A. in Patras, Greece. This event, part of the INSPIRE Hackathon series, focused on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI), Earth observation (EO), and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to address challenges in agriculture.
🎯 Objectives
- Develop AI solutions for agriculture, including deep learning algorithms for EO and IoT data.
- Enhance big data sharing and visualisation through technologies like blockchain.
- Improve the interoperability of agricultural data using semantic approaches and new data models.
🧩 Participating Teams and Projects
Team 1: Management of the HSLayers Architecture
- Team Members: Šimon Leitgeb, Raitis Berzins, František Zadražil, Filip Leitner, Marek Šplíchal
- Description: Focused on defining the architecture of HSLayers for spatial data visualization in agriculture.
Team 2: Agriculture Plastics in the Fields of Finland
- Team Mentors: Jiri Kvapil, Karel Charvat, Tuula Löytty
- Description: Aimed to exploit Earth Observation data to gain accurate information on the number of plastic bales in fields, addressing the challenge of agricultural plastic waste management.
Team 3: Sensor Data Visualisation
- Team Mentors: Michal Kepka, Raitis Berzins
- Description: Tested visualisation frameworks for sensor data, utilising tools like Vega and SensLog to create interactive visualisations of agrometeorological sensor data.
Team 4: Sharing Maps as Intelligent Objects
- Team Mentors: Jan Vrobel, Simon Leitgeb, Raitis Berzins
- Description: Explored the concept of maps as shareable and valuable agricultural objects, enhancing their utility beyond mere visualizations.
Team 5: Unusual Data Exploration
- Team Mentors: Pavel Hájek, Runar Bergheim, Raul Palma
- Description: Investigated statistical data across Europe to uncover unexpected patterns in agriculture, demography, and industry by consolidating data to NUTS3 regions and applying multi-criteria analysis.
Team 6: Integration of Meteoblue Data with Sensors and Visualisation Client
- Team Mentors: Marek Splichal, Raitis Berzins, Michal Kepka
- Description: Integrated Meteoblue weather forecast and historical data with HSLayers NG and SensLog to provide climatic services.
