Karel Charvat – Mentor at the Nairobi INSPIRE Hackathon 2019

Karel Charvat graduated in theoretical cybernetics. He is a member of International Society for Precision Agriculture, Research Data Alliance, vice chair of Club of Ossiach, CAGI, and CSITA. He was in period 2005 – 2007 President of European Federation for Information Technology in Agriculture Food and Environment (EFITA). Now is chair of OGC Agriculture DWG. He was organiser on many hackathons, where as most important were series of INSPIRE Hacks and MEDHackathon. He work on implementation on national INSPIRE Geoportall. Now he is also active in Plan4all association. He has long time experience in ICT for Environment, transport, Agriculture and Precision Farming. Now he is one from promoters of Open and Big Data in Agriculture in Europe. Karel is the mentor of Team no. 1 Food Security in Relation to Earth Observation (GEOSS and COPERNICUS relevance) and. He is also involved in Team no. 5. Agriculture Innovation Hub for Africa.

Uta Wehn – Mentor at the Nairobi INSPIRE Hackathon 2019

Dr. Uta Wehn is Associate Professor of Water Innovation Studies at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. As Project Director of AfriAlliance, Ground Truth 2.0 and CSEOL, her work on citizen science, citizen observatories and community-based environmental monitoring in Europe, the Middle East and Africa aims to harness digital transformations for participatory environmental governance, sustainable development and water management.

Uta is the mentor of Team no.8: Citizen Science in Africa to Ground Truth & Exploit Earth Observation Data.

Raul Palma – Mentor at the Nairobi INSPIRE Hackathon 2019

Dr. Raul Palma is the coordinator of Semantic Technologies in the Network Services division, and leader of international activities in agri-food sector at Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center in Poland (PSNC). He received his PhD in artificial intelligence from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (Spain), and holds a MsC in Information Systems. His research experience includes provenance and evolution, preservation of data and methods, ontology engineering and semantic technologies, open and linked data, software architectures and cloud computing, as well as their application in different domains. He has more than 14 years of experience in research and innovation projects at national and international level, and has been involved in supporting innovation activities and projects focused towards the development of smart agriculture eco-systems. He is responsible of open data activities and committee member of Plan4All, a non-profit association sustaining and further enhancing results of multiple research and innovation projects. In PSNC, he has led and participated in multiple projects, including Cybele, SmartAgriHubs, Databio, EVEREST, FOODIE, SmartAgriFood2, Wf4Ever, e-Lico and others. He has been involved in the development of the research object model and supporting technologies since the beginning, and has been devoted to their dissemination, adoption and exploitation in different domains. He is co-founder and leader of ROHub project. He has published multiple articles, papers and book chapters and has authored or co-authored several vocabularies and ontologies.

Raul is the mentor of Team no. 6 Open Data and Data Sharing in Agri-Food Chains in Africa.

Otakar Čerba – Mentor at the Nairobi INSPIRE Hackathon 2019

Assoc. prof. Otakar Čerba, Ph.D. works at the Department of Geomatics (Faculty of Applied Sciences, University of West Bohemia, Plzeň, Czech Republic). He is focused on web cartography, thematic cartography, Linked Data on the geographic domain and semantic issues of geographic data. He has been involved in many international projects such as Humboldt, SDI4Apps, SmartOpenData, Plan4all, ROSIE and Polivisu (as the member of Plan4all team). Otakar is the main developer of the Smart Points of Interest data model. Otakar Čerba is the members of the board of Czech Association of GeoInformation and the Commission on Maps and the Internet of International Cartographic Association.

Ota is the mentor of Team no. 7 Smart Points of Interest Publication of Open Data in Africa as 5-star Linked Open Data.
