PROJECT IDEA: integration of  3D Open Land Use and Linked Data Generation INSPIRE Hack Teams.

From the technical point of view, the project consists of a 3D web based application. The 3D visualization serves here as a natural access point for the integrated data exploration. Large geographical dataset Open Land Use visualized on top of the EU-DEM terrain gives an initial view on any area of interest inside EU. An RDF dataset of Smart Points of Interest (SPOI) then gives a user the opportunity to deeply explore all the descriptive data linked to a particular place (e.g.: DBPedia, WikiMedia, Linked OSM).

From the point of view visualizing large geographical data it was necessary to:

  • Use an existing tiling service for visualizing the terrain itself.
  • Take the observer position and line of sight into account to visualize a proper region of Open Land Use dataset.

Talking about linked data, there is one service defining an area of interest each time the user change it (by moving, zooming, panning). Then a Sparql query is triggered to acquire related SPOI’s. The requested data are then on-the-fly transformed into a geographic data format and visualized on top of a terrain. After, the user can interact with both the geographic and descriptive context of the data.

Such an application can be then used by both customers (e.g. find your farm producer) and farmers working on precision farming (when the linked data are somehow related do agriculture – e.g. different IOT field sensors, etc)

COMMENTS: This is an integration of INSPIRE Hack 2017 teams (Linked data generation, 3D Open Land Use, Find your farm producer, …)

For now, the solution is not fully integrated, but we know, that we can integrate SPOI RDF into HSLayers:

http://ng.hslayers.org/examples/olu_spoi/?hs_panel=info&hs_x=1607799.902082933&hs_y=6462976.717926565&hs_z=16&visible_layers=Base%20layer;Land%20use%20parcels

What we need is to add it “on top of a terrain” in the Cesium plugin
